For two years, a public employee at a food safety unit has been working simultaneously at Le Bridge Corporation Limited SRL, a private firm.

For two years, a public employee at the district department for food safety in Ialoveni city has been working simultaneously at Le Bridge Corporation Limited SRL, a private firm. As a functionary she had no right to cumulate the two jobs. Recently the National Integrity Commission (CNI) found that there was an incompatibility of jobs in her case. 

During 2014-2015, Alexandra Braga, head of the food safety service at the Ialoveni district department for food safety, which is a unit of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), earned more than 20,000 lei from Le Bridge Corporation Limited.

CNI found that the employee had provided sanitary-veterinary review services at a company warehouse for ice-cream. Mrs Braga explained before commission members that she was working at the company concurrently two days a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays), but outside the ANSA work schedule. 

At its sitting on April 28, CNI ruled that Mrs Braga breached the Law on Public Office and Status of Public Functionary and that she was in incompatibility of jobs. A public functionary must not take other paid activities, it said. 

If Alexandra Braga does not challenge CNI’s findings in a court of law, and the ruling remains in effect, then she risks to lose her job at ANSA. The agency will be notified and asked to sack Mrs Braga from her office in Ialoveni.
